
The last two days at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai were very colorful with the brilliant display of Indian and western silhouettes. One got to see an amazing collection of saris, salwar kameez, tunics, tops, jeans, and much more. On October 23 or the last day of the event, designer Babita Malkani showcased her very summery and cool collection, which was inspired by beautiful coral reefs. Her outfits in pinks, fresh blues, oranges, greens and aquamarines were magical enough to create an amazing rainbow on the ramp
The Gitanjali sponsored fashion event had several front row fashionistas who were planning to book some of the outfits for the celebrity society parties. None other than Achala Sachdev, ex-supermodel opened the show, while actress Celina Jaitley walked the ramp for the grand finale. Vidya Malvade, actress of Chak De attended the show in a resplendent creation of Babita and found the designer’s collection to be feminine and fresh. The silhouettes of this designer whether long or short, always look incredible on any women. According to Actress Geeta Basra, Babita plays with bling in a cool and sophisticated manner and her outfits never appear tacky.
The show of Vikram Phadnis was simply angelic. That was what actress Perizaad Zorabian felt. Phadnis, who is known to be the costume designer of Bollywood, showcased his collection that created a stir with its riotous colors. His collection featured harlequin-inspired gowns, dresses, mini dresses as well as skirts in multi-colored patterns, designs, and fabrics. All his outfits captivated the front row celebrities. Others who attended the show were Wendell Rodricks, Celina Jaitley, Sangeeta Bijlani, Tejaswini Kolhapuri, and others. Actress Tejaswini found the show high-on-energy, classy, as well as fabulous. The pop-art inspired dresses by Phadnis were amazing.
Day Three or October 22 was the day for the men’s wear show by Arjun Khanna. The classic clothes by Arjun used spectacular embroidery. The clothes in ice cream colors butterscotch, strawberry, vanilla, and pistachio were very refreshing.
Dev and Nil’s show was a showstopper as Sonakshi Sinha, the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, Indian actor-turned politician, walked the ramp. A number of celebrities from Bollywood came cheer for and support the fantastic lady. The collection of Zubair Kirmani was casual, sporty, and comfortable for daily wear. That is how actor Arbaaz Khan described the collection.
Indian outfits like lehengas and other drapes may not have been common at the event but the show was a huge success for its international silhouettes.
